CLEVELAND, Ohio — Love in the afternoon is back on ABC.

“General Hospital” returns with new episodes starting Monday. The long-running soap has been airing reruns since May 22 after production shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The cast and crew went back to work on July 22 with a number of health and safety precautions in place, including frequent testing, requiring face masks when not on camera, limiting physical intimacy between actors and having two COVID advisors on set, executive producer Frank Valentini told WABC-TV.

The new protocols have already affected actress Kelly Monaco, who plays Sam McCall. Daytime Confidential reported Monaco, a cast member since 2003, had a breathing problem with the mask on the first day of shooting and, as a result, had to be placed under quarantine for two weeks. Former “Passions” actress Lindsay Hartley will play the sexy P.I. in the interim.

She won’t be the only new face. Dominic Zamprogna is returning to reprise his role as Dante Falconeri. Fans will recall the WSB agent left Port Charles after suffering PTSD following a deep undercover mission. In the time since, his wife, Lulu (Emme Rylan), started a relationship with Dustin (Mark Lawson).

And if you need a refresher course on where things stand in Port Charles, here’s a quick recap:

– Nelle blackmailed Julian into marrying her to help her case in the custody battle over Wiley.

– Nina, Nelle’s only friend, doesn’t realize they’re mother and daughter.

– Platonic newlyweds Michael and Willow are growing closer as they fight for Wiley.

– Meanwhile, Sasha has turned to drugs and Chase focuses on being a cop.

– Rival mobsters Sonny Corinthos and Cyrus Renault seemingly come to an agreement to co-exist.

– Mike’s Alzheimer’s condition is getting worse.

– Anna continues to protect Peter, who may or may not have been involved in Holly’s death. Maxie is still clueless about the man she loves.

– Nikolas must choose between staying married to Ava and keeping the Cassadine fortune or reconnecting with his son, Spencer.

– Valentin is trying to weasel his way into ELQ.

– Molly slept with Brando after rejecting TJ’s proposal.

– Jason and Sam must stay apart as a condition of her parole.

– Cameron likes Joss. Dev probably does, too.

– Elizabeth and Franco are in desperate need of a storyline.

“General Hospital” airs locally on WEWS Channel 5 weekdays at 3 p.m.
